Epic Week of Weather - Wednesday...
Hi Everyone. Continuing my epic week of weather photography spree, I've got some photos from last Wednesday morning to share.
I decided to be less optimistic regarding the time I anticipated the park gate being unlocked, so I timed my arrival for 6.30. Fortunately, I'd only just got off my bike when the man in his van appeared to unlock the gate. I peddled to the middle of the park as there was a decent amount of time before sunrise to head further in. It was REALLY misty, and freezing cold. There was a lot of ground frost and everything looked very pretty.
I headed to an old favourite spot. The problem with only photographing one small area of park is that I sometimes get lazy and stop looking for new things to photograph. It's too easy when it's early and cold and I know I can get good shots in specific locations. I do need to explore more though, and must be more mindful to do so. Maybe this could be a new years resolution!
Here's a frosty photo of one of my favourite trees. I spent quite a lot of time crawling around on my knees getting this composition.

I had to take 2 exposures for this to get everything in focus as the bricks and bracken were quite close to my lens. The images were blended in photoshop to make one sharp image.
It really was a winter wonderland. The light was so soft, and the fog and frost made everything magical.

By this point my feet were getting very cold, as I was wearing my summer wellies again....
I took this one next.
This is a 3 shot bracketed image, exposing for shadows, mid tones and highlights, and combined in Lightroom to make one image.
I could have done with the camera being a bit higher, but I'm increasingly using the view finder for shots that have a high dynamic range, as live view on the back of the camera doesn't have as good a dynamic range as my eye. If the camera were higher then I'd be unable to look through the view finder and would be relying on live view. Basically, I need to be taller. Oh well, it's still a very nice image....
The sun was now up, but the mist wasn't shifting, if anything it seemed to be getting thicker. It was time to head into the woodland, which is the BEST place to go when there is lots of mist....
