A few more photographs from Wednesday morning, last week. The weather has been absolutely lovely here in London. Very settled, frosty overnight, lots of potential to take photos. Why was it not like this over the Christmas hols, when I had some free time??!! :)
This is my late Autumn/Winter go to spot, if it's quite a nice morning, but there is no real atmosphere (which was not the case here :). The wide angle disguises the fact that there isn't really much of a view, aside from the pond and wonderful tree. It's in a slightly elevated position, so the sun rises just above the level of the pond, and in the winter it lines up very nicely with this tree. If the pond isn't full it doesn't work as well. It also becomes less photogenic as the winter wears on. The bracken dies back and the grassy lumps in the pond start to look straggly and weather worn, and it gets a bit bare.
I don't shoot into the sun that often, although I seem to have done so twice in this blog. It's much easier to do when it's a little misty, it softens the light and takes the harshness away. I really like the silhouettes of this little group of trees, and the frosted, brown vegetation in the foreground.
There was something really pleasing about the pale sunlit fog, and the deer hinds silhouetted against the light. It was such a calm and peaceful scene. I would have expected a stag to be with them, that would have been a nice addition, but I didn't spot one anywhere nearby.
Another shot from the ponds. Similar to the one I posted last time, but this one has a bit more breathing space, and it's nice to include the little square wildfowl perch into the image, to give it some balance.
The good weather is forecast to continue for a few more days, so it looks like I am going to be run ragged for a little longer... I am really not complaining though, it's been a brilliant stretch of weather, and I've enjoyed every second of it.
