A man named John Miller selected some land in Athelstone, South Australia in 1838, he purchased more alongside in 1842 which had a creek running through the north east corner and this is where he built his homestead "Stonehouse Farm".

The land was used for farming and horticulture and in 1847, when he was 36 years old, John Miller was killed in an accident when he got run over by his dray (horse drawn cart).
His 7 year old son John jnr. and daughters were sent to live with relatives and when the younger John was older he returned to the area, but never lived in Stonehouse Farm.
John Miller Jnr. sold the farm in 1876 and it went through a variety of hands since that time to the present. It has fallen into disrepair and with an unfinished extension of unknown age.
It is fascinating for such a piece of history to be preserved in suburbia, but it is a pity it is not cared for in a better way.
