Dropped my wife off at the station - she is still not ready to drive home after work. Went for a haircut - nitnhad one for a while. Got to say it is the worst haircut I have had in 60 years. Seems she wanted to cut out all the curls. There was maybe one army haircut worse - just before we started 3 months operational service on the Angola border.

alt

Early start gave me plenty time to do a train-walk - went to walk Mt Ku-ring Gai Track. Milkmaids to start

alt

This little bug caught my eye - green with legs. A bit breezy to get a photo in focus. One hand holding the backing leaf and the other leaf wedged in the same hand. It is a spider

alt

Starburst flower as open as they get

alt

Pink spider grevillea

alt

Last days for the slender rice flower

alt

Part of the walk mission was sun orchids - every blue flower got me looking - dampiera purpurea

alt

Drumsticks flowers also ending

alt

Did get an orchid - bearded orchid - a bit of an ID challenge with no tape below the labellum and only the faintest pair of basal glands - calochilus robertsonii. Next one is different

alt

ID challenge close to the ground - hibbertia vs goodenia

alt

A drumsticks flower still going well

alt

Pea flower - a few going

alt

Chose not to walk down the steps. Last walk here cost me a bad knee which is just recovering

alt

Many walks ago I found a geocache labelled Firemen's Rest. Fiudnt8dsy a small side track to where it should have been. A few seats with a view across the valley

alt

A memorial to 4 firemen who died in a prescribed burn fire in 2000. RIP. Walked past a lot and not known it was here

alt

This rock form standing is amazing - like an eagle looking over their last place

alt

More amazing is the step back shot showing light below - the rock is standing free

alt

Now this I know is hibbertia

alt

Walked a side track to the Cowan Creek side # found this lambertia formosa

alt

And another bearded orchid. ID is clear - the distinctive tape of the red bearded orchid - calochilus paludosus. Makes orchid two for the day

alt

Front on with no basal glands looking back

alt

Flower unfolding with tape first

alt

View over Cowan Creek. Maybe 2 kms away but could hear the jet ski conversation

alt

Evidence on long time history. This rock is 200 metres above the creek bit is hollowed out by water - not from above as it is the top of the ridge

alt

Grey spider grevillea

alt

Leptospermum squarrosum on cliff edge

alt

Gnarled eucalyptus form looking out over the creek

alt

Scribbly gum hollowed out with the tree above still fine

alt

Lomandra opening up

alt

Seeded bearded orchid - looks like tape locks in last

alt

Looks like a sundew flower but plant does not match

Good easy walk with two orchids and knee is OK

alt

Train action at Mt Ku-ring Gai - containers

Got up-to-date with investing blog post. Wife came home early. Cooked a Thai basil mince dish - first time worked well
