I don't find out about many token launches. There are so many that it's virtually impossible to research each one and I don't really have the time. I have invested in some Golem and IGNT because they seem like they have potential, but beyond that I haven't really bothered looking.
Ink, a cryptocurrency that exists on the Ethereum blockchain, is being launched by Listia, an auction site with over 10M registered users. Today at around 6AM PST they will be switching over to using Ink for all transactions.
This won't be a huge step for Listia's customers: they are currently using "credits" to buy items instead of paying with USD. The idea of a non-USD payment being used to buy something is nothing new to the users and they are used to a currency that has fluctuating price. The Ink launch should go over very smoothly and add a lot of people to the crypto world overnight.
Once Ink is added to exchanges, crypto will have a new place to be earned and spent. Listia has a ton of users and you can buy all sorts of things on it. In the past I've bought movie codes, stamps, silver charms, and even a steel penny (yes, those exist!). While it doesn't have nearly as many items as Ebay, it still has a fair amount.
But Ink isn't just a coin used for transactions, it has a few neat features of its own. Buyer to seller feedback, consisting of a rating and a comment, is stored on its blockchain. This data can be used by any site to generate a user's reputation and lets your feedback be shared across multiple sites. If you use multiple Ether addresses you can link them to consolidate your reputation.
Of course, not many stores will implement Ink right away but the developers of Ink came up with a solution to this problem. A payment app called Ink Pay will be released in the near future and can be used to take advantage of Ink's benefits and build your reputation while you use Craig's List and Facebook Marketplace.
(Thanks @trick2g for reminding me of this fact 😛)
(Don't ask me why they made it this confusing)
