Wow is a very effective probabilistic method, perhaps the problem that we currently present in the world is the effectiveness of testing to determine whether or not the virus is in our body, we know that the incubation period is approximately ten days and in that time people can present symptoms, but the genetic load of the virus is not large enough to detect it, this is where the problem comes, these people are isolated in the first instance, but what happens with the asymptomatic? How much is the number? 'Could it be included in the equation? We don't really... we don't have an exact number because those people don't have symptoms, it's impossible to determine.
Another big problem is the rapid tests, some are effective but most are not, for example in my country a person has mild symptoms and is tested and the result is negative, the doctors must tell him to go home because they do not have strong symptoms and is negative on the test, however it turns out that that person does have the virus and here is this other big problem, because that person leaves the hospital believing he has no virus and goes out to the street to spread the virus even more.
So as much as we have numbers and many statistics and probabilities, it is impossible to determine how many people we have infected worldwide. We may have a proximate but never an exact number.
