Greetings to the whole community.
In the present study we will share what is called "Marriage is a job".
We know that marriage is almost never a simple proposal. At some point, each marriage sees that the happiness of the honeymoon ends. Even so, finishing the honeymoon does not necessarily mean that happiness or passion is over. Each couple's home can keep the flame of love alive for a long time, even when the honeymoon is just a sweet memory. How are we going to achieve it? That is what we will discuss in this study. We will begin with the story of a couple that reminds us of the need to work for our marriage.
A marriage arranged in heaven.
At a time when men and women were getting married at an early age, Isaac had already turned 40 and had recently reunited with Rebecca. Why did it take Isaac so long to find his partner, the chosen one? Because he had decided to obey God at all costs.
Isaac lived in a pagan region where there were all kinds of women. However, he knew that he should not marry someone who did not share his faith. He wanted to marry a woman who believed in the one God, and refused to accept any other option. If I could not find a woman like that, I would still be single. And that's how things went for many years.
After the death of Sarah, Isaac's mother, Abraham assumed responsibility for the change of marital status of his son. According to the customs of the time, Abraham entrusted one of his trusted servants with the task of finding a wife for Isaac: "Swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not take from this land of Canaan, where I live, a woman for my son Isaac, but you will go to my land, where my family lives, and from there you will choose a wife "(Genesis 24: 3-4).
Then, the faithful servant went in search of a wife for Isaac and followed his master's instructions to the letter, as he was extraordinarily far away to make sure to find the right woman. Finally, he found a lovely and beautiful shepherdess. When he met her, he had no doubt that God had chosen her to be the wife of his master's son.
Isaac waited for many months, perhaps up to one or two years, for the servant to return with what was to become his wife. The Scriptures describe one of the most romantic scenes with the following words:
One afternoon, he went for a walk in the countryside. Suddenly, when he looked up, he saw the camels approaching. Rebecca also looked up and, seeing Isaac, she got rid of the camel and asked the servant:
- Who is this man who comes to the field to meet us?
"He is my master," replied the servant.
Then he took the veil and covered himself. The servant told Isaac everything he had done. Then Isaac took Rebecca to Sara's tent, her mother, and took her for a wife (verses 63-67).
A love story? Oh, it is! And it is also the story of a pious man who waited for the Lord to tell him the details of his marriage. Isaac had enough faith to believe that God should give him the right person, in the right place and at the right time. Both he and his family had prayed for that need and had refused to compromise. The result speaks for itself: Isaac loved Rebecca. "
If we consider how this marriage began, it would seem impossible that this relationship was not perfect. However, like all marriages, the problems soon appeared and multiplied. Towards the end of chapter 27 of Genesis, after years of marriage and when they already had several children, duality, competition, antagonism, tensions and anger were introduced into the family of Isaac.
The biblical statement that marriage is a union that takes place in the heavens exemplifies something that each couple must remember. Even marriages with the best beginnings will have to face problems. With the passage of time, the flame of love can be extinguished or consumed. If we do not take care of it, we can deactivate it. Unless the husbands work hard to keep the flame burning, the day may come when they wake up and, instead of finding the embers, they will find an icy breeze running through the bedroom.
