Greetings friends, today I want to tell you about a natural phenomenon that happens in my country, Venezuela, throughout the year. It is called Lightning of the Catatumbo.
This impressive gift of nature, is the zone with more electrical activity of the whole Earth, can even be observed more than 2 million flashes of light to the year generating an approximate of 280 discharges per hour at night that reach to measure more than 10 kilometers Of height.
In the period from May to December this phenomenon takes more activity and by the winds that occur in this place at these times of the year and the highest point is recorded between August and early November. As I said at the beginning, the name is Lightning of Catatumbo is also known by locals as El Faro de Maracaibo, considered the only natural lighthouse on the planet.
It has a Guinness World Records as the only meteorological phenomenon with the highest concentration of lightning in the world that is generated south of Lake Maracaibo, in Zulia State in western Venezuela.
As an important fact, the storms that occur there generate a high amount of ozone resulting in 10% of the layer of our planet. Because of their unique potentialities, local nature advocates seek to classify it as a World Heritage Site under the protection of UNESCO. Thanks to this phenomenon the eyes of the world lie on Venezuela.
