Three summers ago I was working in my garden enjoying the peace and quiet of the forest. It is located in an old 100-acre forest of conifers where some pine trees are 200 years old. I feel so comfortable in the presence of these wise giants that would have so much to say should they be able to speak our language. This open space reminds me of a fairy ring where the fairies are furry ones.
There was among them a cute chipmunk that would emerge from a hole with a friendly chirp every time I would call him. I would them treat him with delicious peanuts and he would stay by the garden as long as I was there. Hummingbirds would stop and sit on a spruce branch far from the feeder, quietly watching the lady gardener. I would thank them for their gentle company and for visiting my flowers. Deer would walk by the trail close to the garden and stop when I would tell them how beautiful they are. And we call them “wild” animals...
