Yep, there are some ways to play over the web. I think sometimes the time to get familiar with some of those system are a little deterrent. But most of them sure will work. There are even some funny places where you can start a game session. I had searched for a Starfinder group after i bought the rulebook. Love the setting but it's not too well established here in Germany. After some unsuccessful search I decided to to test if I could run the first adventure path online without having any prior GM experience. Still had no group, so my wife had to be my guinea-pig. At that time she was playing a lot in "Second Life" and so I made a gaming setup there in a space station - that way she did not have to bother with handling Roll20 or any other special software:

We only played a handful of sessions but it was a funny little experiment that worked better than I had expected!

So yes, I think it could be interesting to see if the Hive platform can be used to play a tabletop session online. If you need someone for testing, count me in!
