One day, I and my young friend Timur decided to check how much speed we can reach with the windsurfing. On the photo bellow you can see biutiful sailing!
Wind about 13m/s, sail 5,2 sq/m (freestyle), board 92l (wawe)
Did you have to make a "frog" on the surface of the water? You know, when you found a flat stone on the beach and threw it into the sea. The stone at high speed hits the surface of the water and jumps again into the air. Here the static law of Archimedes does not work. The stone does not sink, but jumps and can do it several times while it has speed.
In windsurfing, we do something similar. We planing!
The experience with Timur showed us wich speed need for the begins to planing.
My friend is just starting windsurfing. Today he had the real planning for the first time.
The GPS was tied to his hand with tape.
Wind about 13m/s, sail 3,7 sq/m, board 166l
I congratulate Timur on his first planing!
