🇬🇧 🔨🚽🌅 Building, Critters & Golden Hours at Ca' Paradiso

Some days on the farm are about one big thing. Others are a glorious mix of sawdust, fur, herbs... and one very unexpected guest with a horn on its tail. This was one of those days. Grab a coffee, let's go! ☕👇

🏗️ The eco-bathroom with the best view in the Marche

The big project of the moment, together with our friend and guest Giorgio: a brand-new little wooden cabin that will become a compost toilet with a solar-heated shower, bidet and sink. 🚽🚿☀️ Yes, a fully off-grid eco-bathroom... with a view that honestly should be illegal. 😍

It all starts humble: pallets as a base, a big sheet of OSB on top, a drill, a tape measure and a lot of "is it level? … is it level NOW?" 📏😅 Allan, our French-born carpenter and jack-of-all-trades (Italian by adoption for many years now), in full action mode, Giorgio in full supervision mode (someone has to do it!).

A few hours later, the frame is up, the first walls are on and the ladder has officially joined the team. Behind us: rolling hills, a lonely oak on the field and the mountains of the Marche. Imagine taking a warm solar shower in front of THIS. 🌄 (And yes, that's an old bathtub turned into a planter on the left. Nothing gets wasted here! 🛁🌱)

Why a compost toilet? Zero water wasted on flushing, zero chemicals, and in time... excellent compost for the future fruit trees. Circular living at its finest! ♻️🌳

🐕 Choko, professional treat inspector

Meanwhile on the terrace, Mariangela discovered the fastest way to Choko Schock's heart: meatballs. 🍖 Look at that posture. Look at that focus. This is a dog who knows exactly how the world works. 🐾

🐛 The most dramatic guest of the day

But the prize for "most spectacular visitor" goes to this chunky beauty: a big yellow caterpillar with blue-green stripes and a curly horn on its tail. As far as I can tell it's the caterpillar of the death's-head hawkmoth (Acherontia atropos), the famous moth with a skull-like pattern on its back. Scary name, harmless big baby. We said hello and let it go back to its business. 🦋✨

🌿 Herbs, basil & good luck

At the door, Mariangela tied fresh herb bundles with raffia and hung them on the old horseshoe to dry. Good luck and good smells: a solid combo. 🍀

And a big bowl of freshly picked basil, glowing in the sun and ready to be dried. The whole house smells like summer, and thanks to this we'll keep that flavour all winter long. 😋

🌾 Walking the meadows

In between all this, a good walk through the meadows: tall wild grasses, dramatic clouds rolling over the hills and that one lucky oak catching the last sunlight on the slope. 🌥️

Coming back home through the tall grass, with the house peeking out from the trees and the prayer flags waving on the porch. 🏡

🌅 And to close the day...

The sky went from blue to peach to gold behind the mountains, the prayer flags did their gentle dance and everything went quiet. That's the moment when you know it was a good day. 🙏

And a special mention for Giorgio, sporting a rooster-style quiff that the wind styled better than any hairdresser. Our hens are officially jealous. 🐓😄

So, in summary: one eco-bathroom on its way, one polite dog, one curious kitten, one spectacular caterpillar, a basket of herbs and a sunset for the collection. 🇮🇹 VERSIONE ITALIANA — 🔨🚽🌅 Cantieri, creature e tramonti d'oro a Ca' Paradiso

Ci sono giornate in fattoria dedicate a una sola cosa. E poi ci sono quelle che sono un meraviglioso miscuglio di segatura, pelo, erbe aromatiche... e un ospite decisamente inaspettato con un cornetto sulla coda. Questa era una di quelle. Prendete un caffè e andiamo! ☕👇

🏗️ Il bagno ecologico con la vista più bella delle Marche

Il grande progetto del momento, insieme al nostro amico e ospite Giorgio: una casetta di legno nuova di zecca che diventerà una compost toilet con doccia a riscaldamento solare, bidet e lavandino. 🚽🚿☀️ Sì, un bagno ecologico completamente autonomo... con una vista che dovrebbe essere vietata per legge. 😍

Si parte in umiltà: bancali come base, un grande pannello di OSB sopra, un avvitatore, un metro e tanti "è in bolla? … e ADESSO è in bolla?" 📏😅 Allan, il nostro falegname e tuttofare di origine francese (ma ormai italiano d'adozione da diversi anni), in modalità azione totale, Giorgio in modalità supervisione totale (qualcuno deve pur farlo!).

Qualche ora dopo la struttura è in piedi, le prime pareti sono montate e la scala è ufficialmente entrata a far parte della squadra. Alle nostre spalle: colline morbide, una quercia solitaria in mezzo al campo e le montagne delle Marche. Immaginate di farvi una doccia calda al sole davanti a QUESTO. 🌄 (E sì, quella a sinistra è una vecchia vasca da bagno diventata fioriera. Qui non si butta via niente! 🛁🌱)

Perché una compost toilet? Zero acqua sprecata negli scarichi, zero prodotti chimici e, col tempo... ottimo compost per i futuri alberi da frutto. L'economia circolare nella sua forma migliore! ♻️🌳

🐕 Choko, ispettore professionista di biscottini

Intanto in veranda Mariangela ha scoperto la via più rapida per arrivare al cuore di Choko Schock: le polpettine. 🍖 Guardate che postura. Guardate che concentrazione. Questo è un cane che ha capito esattamente come gira il mondo. 🐾

🐛 L'ospite più scenografico della giornata

Ma il premio "visitatore più spettacolare" va a questo bestione: un grosso bruco giallo con strisce blu-verdi e un cornetto arricciato sulla coda. Per quanto ne so è il bruco della sfinge testa di morto (Acherontia atropos), la famosa falena con il disegno a forma di teschio sul dorso. Nome spaventoso, ma in realtà un bestione innocuo. Lo abbiamo salutato e l'abbiamo lasciato tornare alle sue faccende. 🦋✨

🌿 Erbe, basilico e buona fortuna

Accanto alla porta, Mariangela ha legato con la rafia dei mazzetti di erbe fresche e li ha appesi al vecchio ferro di cavallo a essiccare. Fortuna e profumo: una combinazione vincente. 🍀

E una bella ciotola di basilico appena colto, che brilla al sole, pronto per essere essiccato. Tutta la casa profuma d'estate, e così quel sapore ce lo porteremo dietro per tutto l'inverno. 😋

🌾 A spasso per i prati

Tra una cosa e l'altra, una bella camminata nei prati: erbe selvatiche alte, nuvoloni scenografici che rotolano sulle colline e quella quercia fortunata che cattura l'ultimo raggio di sole sul pendio. 🌥️

Il rientro a casa tra l'erba alta, con la casa che fa capolino tra gli alberi e le bandierine di preghiera che sventolano sotto il portico. 🏡

🌅 E per chiudere la giornata...

Il cielo è passato dall'azzurro al pesca all'oro dietro le montagne, le bandierine hanno fatto la loro danza leggera e tutto si è fatto silenzioso. È quel momento in cui capisci che è stata una bella giornata. 🙏

E una menzione speciale per Giorgio, con un ciuffo alla Galletta che il vento ha acconciato meglio di qualsiasi parrucchiere. Le nostre galline sono ufficialmente invidiose. 🐓😄

Riassumendo: un bagno ecologico in arrivo, un cane educatissimo, un gattino curioso, un bruco spettacolare, un cesto di erbe e un tramonto da collezione.
