Yeah sand is a good thing to have in soil, especially the sand that is erosion from rocks. I actually live near the Monterey Bay, and they have sea lions, and whales too. I used to live close enough where you could here the sea lions barking at night, "ARF, ARF, ARF!" lol They are actually kinda nasty creatures, but still cool
