A lot of types of sunflowers have multiple stems and flower heads, yours is probably a result of cross-pollination of the plant that the seed came from. If you plant the black oil sunflower seeds that you would buy to feed the birds, they always have multiple flowers, but they don't get as tall as the mammoth sunflowers.
