Did Omicron come from China? The three countries with the ability to do genomic sequencing of this variant were HongKong, Botswana and South Africa. What's more, the Botswanans say they detected it first amongst Chinese officials.
China has been closed off from the rest of the world since January 2020. We know that the Omicron virus has June 2020 characteristics. Which should be impossible, thanks to the mutation of the virus as it headed west.
It's plausible that due to China cutting itself from the world, their virus produced different characteristics from the variants abroad.
But Chinese people were not prevented from travelling. Apart from Chinese officials travelling abroad, carrying virus... Who then spread the new variant. Omicron. The new Chinese variant. Which they have known about all along...
