On the joint journey with Rodrigo Bari through Brazil and Uruguay we continued our joint project of light painting in black and white. Actually it should continue analogously. Somehow we didn't get the drive this time even though we had the camera and film with us. If you are not yet familiar with the beginning of the project you can find it under the following links:

The recordings were made in black and white mode. The recordings were not subsequently converted to SW.

Auf der gemeinsamen Reise mit Rodrigo Bari durch Brasilien und Uruguay setzten wir unser gemeinsames Projekt Lightpainting in Schwarzweiß fort. Eigentlich sollte es auch analog weitergehen. Irgendwie bekamen wir diesmal nicht den Drive, obwohl wir Kamera und Film dabei hatten. Wer den Beginn des Projektes noch nicht kennt, findet dieses unter den folgenden Links:

Die Aufnahmen erfolgten in Schwarzweißmodus. Die Aufnahmen wurden nicht nachträglich in SW gewandelt.

All pictures were taken on a property in El Eden (Uruguay) which I have already described in a previous

Article .
In the cover picture we see a group of trees on this property. Rodrigo operated the camera while I moved between the trees with a 1/2" plastic water pipe attached to a flashlight. The further I got away from the camera the slower I walked in order to photograph the "curtain" as evenly as possible. Then I lit the trees from the right/front with an EMISAR (Nocticon) DM11.

During this action, in the dark, I stepped on a rusty nail protruding from an old slat lying around between the trees. The thing broke off and got stuck in the sole. I was lucky that the nail was quite far forward in the shoe and thus found space between the toes. You don't wear work shoes with puncture-proof soles then something like that!

Im Titelbild sehen wir eine Baumgruppe auf diesem Grundstück. Rodrigo bediente die Kamera, während ich mich mit einem auf eine Taschenlampe gesteckten 1/2" - Plastikwasserrohr zwischen den Bäumen bewegte. Dabei lief ich um so langsamer, je weiter ich mich von der Kamera entfernte, um den "Vorhang" möglichst gleichmässig abzulichten. Danach beleuchtete ich die Bäume von rechts/vorn mit einer EMISAR (Nocticon) DM11.
Bei dieser Aktion trat ich im Dunkeln auf einen rostigen Nagel, der aus einer alten Latte ragte, die zwischen den Bäumen rumlag. Das Ding brach ab und Blieb in der Sohle stecken. Mein Glück war, dass der Nagel ziemlich weit vorn im Schuh steckte und somit zwischen den Zehen platz fand. Da zieht man einmal keine Arbeitsschuhe mit durchtrittsicherer Sohle an, dann sowas!

In the second picture you can see a container in which all the building services for water and waste water were housed. This was illuminated by the moon. For the light painting I used as above a flashlight from

Lightpainting Paradise with adapter and attached plastic tube. For the star trails Rodrigo exposes for almost 40 minutes.

Im zweiten Bild seht ihr einen Container in dem die gesamte Haustechnik für Wasser und Abwasser untergebracht war. Beleuchtet wurde dieser vom Mond. Für das Lightpainting benutzte ich, wie oben, eine Taschenlampe von

Lightpainting Paradise mit Adapter und dem aufgestecktem Plastikrohr. Für die Sternspuren belichtet Rodrigo für fast 40 Minuten.

In the third picture, Rodrigo photographed a basketball hoop that was in front of the house. This is a test shot for a light painting. Since we were working with two cameras at the same time that evening the "last picture" of the night was not finished. We were exhausted and happy with the results so far.

In the fourth picture you can see the light painting from the following night. Unfortunately, a thick layer of clouds covered the sky that night. In this picture I used a Lightblade on a LEDLenser MT14. Of course, the idea was to perform this light painting in front of the star trails of the night before. Maybe another day. You can't have everything 🙄. I can also gain something from the minimal composition.

Im dritten Bild hat Rodrigo einen Basketballkorb, der sich vor dem Haus befand, abgelichtet. Es handelt sich hier um eine Testaufnahme für ein Lightpainting. Da wir an diesem Abend mit zwei Kameras gleichzeitig arbeiteten, ist das "letzte" Bild nicht fertig geworden. Wir waren erschöpft und mit den bisherigen Ergebnissen zufrieden. Im vierten Bild seht ihr das Lightpainting, von der darauffolgenden Nacht. Leider verdeckte in dieser Nacht eine dicke Wolkenschicht den Himmel. In diesem Bild benutzte ich ein Lightblade an einer LEDLenser MT14. Die Idee war natürlich dieses Lightpainting vor den Sternspuren des Vorabends zu performen. Vielleicht an einem anderen Tag. Mann kann nicht alles haben 🙄. Der minimalen Komposition kann ich auch was abgewinnen.

Now it's time to introduce Rodrigo. He is a professional foot photographer. He works for the largest food companies in Brazil. It's pretty funny going shopping with Rodrigo at the supermarket. The works of a "normal" artist can be seen in a gallery or exhibition. Rodrigo's gallery is the supermarket. His work can be admired on a good 50% of the packaging in the deep-freeze shelves. Maybe we'll soon find a light painting on the shelf there. Who knows?

He himself says that he has hardly taken any photos privately in recent years. I hope that will change after our tour. I left him one of my tools there.

Nun wird es Zeit Rodrigo vorzustellen. Er ist professioneller Foot-Fotograf. Er arbeitet für die größten Lebensmittelkonzerne Brasiliens. Es ist ziemlich lustig mit Rodrigo im Supermarkt einkaufen zu gehen. Die Werke eines "normalen" Künstlers sind in einer Galerie oder Ausstellung zu sehen. Rodrigos Galerie ist der Supermarkt. Auf gut 50% der Verpackungen in den Tiefkühlregalen ist seine Arbeit zu bewundern. Vielleicht finden wir dort bald mal ein Lightpainting im Regal. Wer weiß? Er selbst sagt, dass er die letzten Jahre kaum Fotos privat gemacht hat. Ich hoffe, dass sich das nach unserer Tour ändert. Eines meiner Licht-Tools habe ich bei ihm gelassen.

The above picture of Rodrigo was taken in 2017.

These were the first steps with Rodrigo in light painting. It was already 2 or 3 am when we arrived at Rodrigo's from a party. I hooked him that evening with this light painting that we had to try something right away. 😂 Well, not an epochal work of art, but a start.

Oben das Bild von Rodrigo entstand 2017. Das waren die ersten Gehversuche mit Rodrigo im Lightpainting. Es war bereits morgens 2 oder 3 Uhr, nachdem wir von irgendeiner Party bei Rodrigo zu Hause eintrafen. Ich hatte ihm an diesem Abend so sehr mit diesem Lightpainting angefixt, dass wir sofort was probieren mussten. 😂 Naja, kein epochales Kunstwerk, aber ein Anfang.

In the last picture I show the tools used.

We were very minimalistic. A homemade light blade with a tube adapter on an LEDLenser. A transparent water pipe on a Ryu's Lightworks flashlight and the NOCTIGON DM11.

Im letzten Bild zeige ich die eingesetzten Tools. Wir waren sehr minimalistisch unterwegs. Ein Eigenbau-Light-Blade mit einem Rohradapter an einer LEDLenser. Ein transparente Wasserleitung an einer Ryu's Lightworks-Taschenlampe und die NOCTIGON DM11.
