@lichtkunstfoto and Hans Roufflair had been planned for a long time. First we visited the Heilandskirche in Potsdam on Friday night. Each of us had prepared ideas and brought the appropriate props with us. I chose a scene from William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The sacred buildings and the atmosphere there just seemed right to me.

@lichtkunstfoto und Hans Roufflair. Als erstes besuchten wir Freitag Nacht die Heilandskirche in Potsdam. Jeder von uns hatte Ideen vorbereitet und entsprechende Requisiten im Gepäck. Ich hatte mich für eine Szene aus William Shakespeares Hamlet entschieden. Die sakralen Bauten und die Atmosphäre dort erschien mir einfach passend.

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio

The re-enacted scene shows Hamlet holding the skull of Yorick, the king's jester, understanding that death is inevitable. My model was Hans Roufflair. I traced the cobblestone circle and cross with lit sparklers to add some drama to the image. I lit the model from the front with a scanner and from the back with a Convoy S2+ (green LED). I exposed the church with an EMISAR D18. The moon shone so bright that night that I didn't have to do anything else. It was almost too bright for light painting.

Die nachgebildete Szene zeigt, wie Hamlet den Schädel von Yorick, dem Narren des Königs, in seiner Hand hält und versteht, dass der Tod unvermeidlich ist. Modell stand mir dabei Hans Roufflair. Den gepflasterten Kreis und das Kreuz malte ich mit brennenden Wunderkerzen nach, um etwas mehr Dramatik ins Bild zu bekommen. Das Model habe ich von vorn mit einem Scanner- und von hinten mit einer Convoy S2+ (LED grün) angeleuchtet. Die Kirche wurde von mir mit einer EMISAR D18 belichtet. Der Mond schien in dieser Nacht so hell, dass ich nichts weiter tun musste. Es war schon fast zu hell zum Lightpainten.

In the picture above you can see the Heilandskirche illuminated only by the moonlight. Only the arcades were artificially illuminated here by an EMISAR D18 with a blue filter.

Im Bild oben seht ihr die Heilandskirche nur durch das Mondlicht beleuchtet. Einzig die Arkaden wurden hier durch eine EMISAR D18 mit blauem Filter künstlich belichtet.

In the image below, I only relied on the moonlight. The moon was so bright you can see my camera's shadow at the base of the cross.

Im Bild unten habe ich mich nur auf das Mondlicht verlassen. Der Mond schien so hell, dass man unten am Kreuz den Schatten meiner Kamera erkennen kann.

Camera Rotation

In the following pictures I let the camera rotate around its own axis. The following image was exposed solely by the moonlight. This allows the pattern of the forecourt to be seen in the church.

Auf den folgenden Bildern ließ ich die Kamera um ihre eigene Achse rotieren. Das folgende Bild wurde ausschließlich durch das Mondlicht belichtet. Dadurch ist das Muster des Vorplatzes in der Kirche zu sehen.

In order to make the patterns of the forecourt on the church disappear, the lens had to be covered in the meantime, for example when I changed my position. This shortened the exposure time for the moonlight and gave you control over the exposure of the image again. In the image below, I exposed the scene with an EMISAR D18. For the arcades I put a blue filter in front of the flashlight.

Um die Muster des Vorplatzes auf der Kirche verschwinden zu lassen, musste das Objektiv zwischenzeitlich abgedeckt werden, während ich zum Beispiel meine Position änderte. So wurde die Belichtungszeit für das Mondlicht verkürzt und man bekam wieder Kontrolle über die Belichtung des Bildes. Im Bild unten belichtete ich die Szene mit einer EMISAR D18. Für die Arkaden setzte ich einen blauen Filter vor die Lampe.

For the following picture I changed the location. I placed my camera a bit off on a large meadow from which I had a nice view of the Heilandskirche.

With the moon shining so brightly, I wanted to record a rotation with a tower. In order to expose the picture evenly, I stopped the time. I exposed each side for 60 seconds. It took me 10 seconds to rotate the camera.

Für das folgende Bild wechselte ich den Standort. Die Kamera platzierte ich etwas abseits auf einer großen Wiese, von der man eine schöne Aussicht auf die Heilandskirche hatte. Wenn der Mond schon so hell schien, wollte ich das Licht für eine Rotation mit Turm nutzen. Um das Bild gleichmäßig zu belichten, stoppte ich die Zeit. Jede Seite belichtete ich 60 Sekunden. 10 Sekunden benötigte ich für die Rotation der Kamera.
