Hace casi ya 2 años que inicio la pandemia causada por el virus de Covid-19, creo que no tengo que hablar mucho sobre que es este virus porque todos hemos vivido esta experiencia juntos en carne propia. Algunos han padecido de este terrible virus, otros hemos visto ir a amigos, familiares y también hemos estado preocupados por miembros de nuestra familia enfermos e incluso con graves complicaciones. Han sido casi 2 años de una vida muy extraña; en un momento sentimos que las cosas están mejorando y al otro todo vuelve a empeorar, en definitiva han sido momentos muy difíciles y aunque hemos aprendido muchas experiencias de esta situación, no podemos negar que no es nada grato saber que convivimos con una enfermedad letal en muchas ocasiones.
Todos sabemos que cuando este año comenzamos a conocer sobre las vacunas contra el covid-19, tuvimos un alivio, sé que todos tenemos opiniones diferentes en cuanto a lo que representan estas vacunas; pero para mí y una opinión bien personal es la mejor opción que tenemos para protegernos. Es prevención y no, no significa que porque te vacunes vas a ser inmune, esa es una lucha que todavía vivimos y que poco a poco el ser humano se adaptará. La vacuna lo que representa es una herramienta por así decirlo para que en caso de contagio nuestro cuerpo reaccione al virus y quizá dependiendo de nuestra condiciones, situaciones no empeoremos clínicamente. Por mi parte me he informado a través de personas especializadas en el tema (doctores, epidemiólogos), además al contar con mi hermano estudiando medicina siempre que tengo una duda acudo a él para resolverla. Cabe resaltar que yo tengo una condición médica, soy resistente a la insulina, por lo que todos en mi familia estaban pendientes de que me vacunara.
It has been almost 2 years since the beginning of the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus, I think I don't have to talk much about what this virus is because we have all lived this experience together in the flesh. Some of us have suffered from this terrible virus, others of us have seen friends, relatives and we have also been worried about sick family members and even with serious complications. It has been almost 2 years of a very strange life; one moment we feel that things are getting better and the next everything is getting worse again, in short it has been a very difficult time and although we have learned many experiences from this situation, we cannot deny that it is not at all pleasant to know that we are living with a lethal disease in many occasions.
We all know that when this year we started to know about the vaccines against covid-19, we were relieved, I know that we all have different opinions as to what these vaccines represent; but for me and a very personal opinion, it is the best option we have to protect ourselves. It is prevention and no, it does not mean that because you get vaccinated you are going to be immune, that is a struggle that we are still living and that little by little the human being will adapt. What the vaccine represents is a tool, so to speak, so that in case of infection our body reacts to the virus and perhaps depending on our conditions, situations, we do not get worse clinically. For my part, I have been informed by people specialized in the subject (doctors, epidemiologists), and since my brother is studying medicine, whenever I have a doubt I always go to him to solve it. It is worth mentioning that I have a medical condition, I am insulin-resistant, so everyone in my family was watching out for me to get vaccinated.
El caso de todo esto es que decidí colocarme la vacuna, en mi país(Venezuela) comenzaron priorizando a las personas de tercera edad, luego a las personas mayores de 40 años y en estos últimos meses apenas es que los mayores de 18 años podemos asistir a cualquier centro de salud para colocarla. El sistema o plataforma que daba las citas, es uno llamado Patria, que yo no tengo por razones personales. Pero lo que si hacía era mandar un mensaje al teléfono destinado para ello, como un número del Ministerio de Salud, con la esperanza de que alguna vez me dieran la cita. Lo que hacía era enviar mi cédula de identidad; llegue a rendirme por un momento porque mandaba el mensaje y me decían que no tenía cita aún; hasta que un buen domingo me llega el mensaje, donde me comunicaban que el día lunes podía asistir para colocarme la vacuna.
El centro de salud que me asignaron quedaba cerca de mi casa pero aún más cerca me queda una especie de dispensario que esta dentro de la misma urbanización donde vivo; así que como es un centro de salud muy pequeño podías ir a hacerlo incluso sin cita programada; ese día fui muy temprano pensando que me encontraría con una fila que hacer pero la verdad es que solo habíamos como 4 personas y yo. Esperamos que comenzaran a colocar la vacuna y en cuestión de unos 15 minutos ya estaba en casa.
Lo primero que sentí fue un poco de molestia en el brazo, la enfermera me dijo que tuviera reposo por 3 días, así que hice caso; además ya me habían recomendado tomar vitaminas para aumentar mi sistema inmunológico. En la noche lo único que sentí fue dolor en el brazo, me tome un relajante muscular y mejoro. Al otro día no podía escribir con la mano pero todo bien; sabía que debía tomar reposo y mantener sana para poder colocarme mi segunda dosis, que era dentro de 21 días.
The point of all this is that I decided to get the vaccine, in my country (Venezuela) they started prioritizing the elderly, then people over 40 years old and in recent months only those over 18 years old can go to any health center to get it. The system or platform that gave the appointments is one called Patria, which I do not have for personal reasons. But what I did do was to send a message to the phone number intended for that purpose, like a number of the Ministry of Health, in the hope that they would give me an appointment. What I did was to send my identity card; I gave up for a moment because I sent the message and they told me that I did not have an appointment yet; until one Sunday I got the message, where they told me that on Monday I could go to get the vaccine.
The health center that was assigned to me was close to my house but even closer is a kind of dispensary that is within the same urbanization where I live; so as it is a very small health center you could go to it even without a scheduled appointment; that day I went very early thinking that I would find a line to do but the truth is that there were only about 4 people and me. We waited for them to start giving the vaccine and in a matter of about 15 minutes I was home.
The first thing I felt was a little discomfort in my arm, the nurse told me to rest for 3 days, so I did what she told me; besides they had already recommended me to take vitamins to increase my immune system. At night the only thing I felt was pain in my arm, I took a muscle relaxant and it got better. The next day I could not write with my hand but everything was fine; I knew I had to take rest and keep healthy to be able to take my second dose, which was in 21 days.
Días después llego mi menstruación como es normal en todas las mujeres, yo soy una persona con hormonas desordenadas a causa de mi misma condición, la insulina es una hormona y por ende puede descontrolar a las demás. Pasaron los primeros 7 días, 14 días... Los días pasaban y yo seguía con la menstruación, mi mamá llego a asustarse porque ya he tenido experiencias de hemorragia, así que decidimos consultar a médicos y nos dijeron que la vacuna puede alterar la menstruación y en mi caso al tener ya una "alteración" mucho más. Así que me quede tranquila y solo tome reposo. Finalmente al día 21 por fin la menstruación desapareció. Incluso fui a colocarme la segunda dosis con la menstruación, ya que esa fue la recomendación médica que me dieron.
Con la segunda dosis el malestar en el brazo fue menos, ya que me tome un relajante muscular llegando a casa, tomando en cuanta mi experiencia con la primera dosis. Así que ahora ya tengo mi tarjeta de vacunación completada por ahora, y digo por ahora porque no sabemos si vamos a requerir un refuerzo o otra, aún es algo que investiga la sociedad medica.
Days later my menstruation arrived as it is normal for all women, I am a person with disordered hormones because of my condition, insulin is a hormone and therefore can uncontrol the others. The first 7 days passed, 14 days? The days passed and I was still menstruating, my mom got scared because I have already had experiences of bleeding, so we decided to consult doctors and they told us that the vaccine can alter menstruation and in my case, since I already had an "alteration" much more. So I stayed calm and just took rest. Finally, on the 21st day, the menstruation finally disappeared. I even went to take the second dose with my menstruation, since that was the medical recommendation I was given.
With the second dose the discomfort in my arm was less, since I took a muscle relaxant when I got home, taking into account my experience with the first dose. So now I have my vaccination card completed for now, and I say for now because we do not know if we will require a booster or another, it is still something that the medical society is investigating.
Tenía muchas inquietudes con respecto a la menstruación, así que me puse a investigar y encontré un artículo que dejaré aquí para que puedan verlo, donde decían que fue la población femenina de España que reporto cambios o alteraciones en su ciclo menstrual después de vacunarse contra el covid-19, también decían que volver a nuestros ciclos normales nos puede tomar unos 3 o 4 ciclos. Así que me quede tranquila, porque es un efecto secundario que será temporal.
Quise hacer este post para contar mi experiencia y que personas o mujeres vean que es un efecto; además también quise esperar que pasara un poco el tiempo desde mi segunda dosis para hablar un poco más a largo plazo. No me arrepiento de haber optado por protegerme y a los míos. Vacunarse para mi fue la mejor opción que pude tomar.
I had many concerns regarding menstruation, so I started to investigate and I found an article that I will leave here so you can see it, where they said that it was the female population of Spain that reported changes or alterations in their menstrual cycle after being vaccinated against covid-19, they also said that returning to our normal cycles can take us about 3 or 4 cycles. So I was reassured, because it is a side effect that will be temporary.
I wanted to make this post to tell my experience and that people or women see that it is an effect; I also wanted to wait a little time after my second dose to talk a little more long term. I do not regret having chosen to protect myself and my loved ones. Getting vaccinated for me was the best choice I could have made.
