My piano version of Black by Pearl Jam. This is probably my favourite song. I did a whole session of recording but then deleted all of it. There is an obvious instinct to perform with impact when making these videos, however sometimes a song demands the bravery to play with humility and subtlety instead. Realising that, I then went back and recorded this video in the first take. I think the best version of this track can be seen with their youthful aggression on the 1992 Pearl Jam edition of MTV Unplugged, although the song has since matured with the band and they now play it with the sluggish exhaustion of a true victim of unrequited romance - which I absolutely love.
