"You don't always need a plan, just go!"
Our quick escapade to the small island of Lakawon in the middle of our trips to Negros and Bacolod was a proof that sometimes life’s best moments usually happen unplanned.
It was one lovely summertime when we last explored the beautiful City of Smiles, Bacolod. We were on our second day of Negros Occidental when we had some changes to our itinerary. Instead of going to Campuestohan Highland Resort, we decided to make a stop first at Lakawon Island, a twenty-minute ride paradise away from Cadiz Port.
LAKAWON ISLAND
Located in the Northern Part of Negros island, some source said that Lakawon island is 13 hectares in size while some source says it's 16, one thing was for sure, Lakawon island is absolutely a beautiful paradise of Bacolod, Negros.
This small private-run island is one of the islands I set foot on that has the creamiest white sand. The island looks like a very beautiful sandbar from afar!
Aside from the creamy white sand, one of the main tourist attractions of the island is its native Nipa hut which will greet you as soon as you arrived on the island. But before you could get to see this, you will walk through the bridge which I may say made the entrance of the island resort more stunning.
Lakawon resort has over 20 Nipa huts installed in the front of the island. Its table and benches are made of bamboo.
The clear and turquoise water has made Lakawon island popular for tourists too, both local and foreign.
Look at those small beautiful huts! One has to rent the hut to use it. As for us, we didn't rent a hut because Lakawon island was not part of our budget and itinerary, so instead, we just laid our things on the sand.
The beautiful bridge in my background is also the tourist's favorite to take photos.
There were also swings in the front part of the island where guests could relax and enjoy, at the same time have their instagrammable photos. They have this part of the island also where "LAKAWON" is spelled using woods. Sadly, I don't have photos of that part of the island.
How to get to Lakawon?
Among the small island I had visited so far, Lakawon has the most organized way of accepting their guests. To get to the main Resort, one has to wait in a queue to get his/her priority number at the port. Once you had the priority number, you will input your information including your purpose of visit into the touchscreen computer provided.
After which, you will pay and get your card as your access to the resort. Once everything is set and ready, all you need to do is wait for the boat that will transport you to the island.
Those small boats are the boats owned by the resort that will transport the guests to Lakawon Island Resort.
You see it right, this part of the beach is brown because of the mud. But as soon as we get near the Island, we were amazed at how crystal clear the water is!

Since this island adventure is spontaneous and quick, we hurriedly strolled around the island to see its beauty. And yes we were left in awe!
This is the back part of the island. The mountains in the background are the mountains of Iloilo Island. Unlike the front part of the island, the back part of the island doesn't have as creamy white sand as in the front however it has a bounty of seaweeds, a home to plenty of seafood.
There were only very few people here compared to the front part of the island.
Another beautiful view met my eyes in the eastern bay of the island. There was an event going on at this time of our visit, a paragliding competition. I stayed there for a couple of minutes to watch the paragliding event and then continued my stroll.

Finally, my favorite moment at Lakawon Island, watching the magical sunset. Everything was so serene and peaceful. I felt humble once again and grateful for all the things I see and traveled.
