I haven't done a 'first day back to school' day in nearly 8 years! So today is quite exciting for me! I'm newly unemployed, had a great Holiday season, have an incredibly supportive team behind me, and am feeling fresh and ready to rock this program! This is my third go at post-secondary education so I don't feel nervous about the whole, attending classes, meeting people, etc., but I am a little worried about whether I can handle this program. It's the first time I have taken anything that is completely new to me. I had experience in art when I entered my BFA and I knew the basics when I started my photography program. Now I am embarking on a certificate in Engineering Graphics... I have no idea what to expect, if I'll like it, or if I'll be any good at it. I'm just trying something new!
So. It's morning and I am getting ready to head out for my first day. Here's what I am bringing:
Don't mind my desk, forever covered in paint! So there's my beloved Matt&Nat backpack which will fit my Asus flipbook, my little umbrella (westcoast, yo), my notebook, my headphones, and my trusty KeepCup, so I can grab a waste-free cuppa on the way to the bus.
Since my tuition includes a bus pass, I'll be riding the bus. I live downtown and the campus is too far to walk, so I'm pretty excited to be able to take advantage of the ride (it's about 40 minutes to get out there by bus).
Ready to go! Class starts at 8:30am!
Are there any other 'mature students' out there? How are you doing in your studies? Do you consider it an advantage to be attending your post-secondary a bit later in life, rather than directly after high school? I know I did when I was in photography school... and I was only 23 then! I never thought I would be going back to school at age 30... and yet here I am! Another chapter begins!
