SOCIAL MEDIA AND ITS IMPACT ON DAILY LIFE
Hello #scifimultiverse, happy new week. There is a saying that everything that has an advantage also has a disadvantage.
Social media has been a very wonderful tool. It has impacted and continues to impact lives positively and negatively. In the early 90’s, it was mainly seen and known tools to chat and socialise. Some even took it as a tool to while away time,
However, in recent times, social media has transformed to a powerful tool to engage, socialize, advertise, make money and even do a lot of data algorithms. For example, a company can use it to carry out a marketing campaign, survey, and data sample collection through anonymous voting.
Secondly, many organisations use social media as their major platform for meetings and information sharing. Applications such as WhatsApp, Google Team App, and Zoom have become useful meeting apps. While the Canva Photoshops and Capcuts are presently important tools for editing and graphics design.
Furthermore, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, now known as X, Snapchat, TikTok, and WeChat, to name a few, have become very useful apps in our daily lives. We obtain live updates on happenings around the world from these apps. We also make a reasonable income from them for those of us who monetize their social media handles.
Conversely, many people have weaponized social media. They use it as a tool to bully, spread false narratives, intimidate, and body shame others. They also scam and hack into the accounts of unsuspecting individuals and sometimes take over such accounts and use them to scam others.
My sister once lost her phone, and before she could block her accounts, they hacked into her Instagram and WhatsApp accounts and scammed people. Personally, I have been impacted significantly by the social media apps I use, especially WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, X, and others. They have made life easier for me and reduced my cost of communication . I communicate with my friends and family at will, individually and collectively. I also engage very well in my professional forums through social media.
Additionally, in my church, social media is a helpful tool through which the teachers, fathers, and tens of people execute their activities. The importance of social media can't be overemphasised. Time will fail me to put down all it's benefits.
However, there should be self-control as to how people use it. Some are now obsessed with the usage, leaving other things unattended. Some show audio and fake life on the social media, hence putting others to pressure and even depression. I once put a hold on visiting some social media spaces because of the kind of fake life and extreme luxurious lifestyle I was seeing all over my space, putting me under unnecessary pressure. To maintain my sanity, I quietly slipped off the space, worked on myself and came back balanced to handle things better.
In conclusion, social media is a beehive of intentional tools per excellence. Our ability to apply ourselves consciously and positively while using it will give the desired result without hurting a fly.
