Hive Open Mic - Highlights
Week 51: March 28-April 3, 2021
This week's Hive Open Mic theme is: "Unity," chosen by our community's recent "Spotlight Artist": @holisticmom. We received 78 songs in total this week, which is a new record, woohoo! I am so happy seeing this terrific turnout, and I am hopeful our community will continue to grow as we share the gifts of live music.
On the subject of "Unity," I'd like to express my thanks to every individual working to make Hive Open Mic a true comm-unity. In my eyes, we are brothers and sisters from around the world, working toward global harmony with each and every song we share. I feel we are finding our voices, refining the ways we show up in the world, learning to walk in beauty.
Today's highlights include melodies of many nations, languages, cultures, and faiths. As the curator of this list, I will attempt to keep my words short and to the point, allowing the songs to speak for themselves. My intention is to share a small selection of standout entries, hoping all artists will understand my respect, whether or not your music is included here. I honor you, and I honor the songs you carry. Let's listen.
🌟
The Spotlight Artist
Nuestro Padre / Our Father (Cover) by
@irissol
This is strikingly beautiful. I find myself in tears, and then even weeping, so touched by the beauty she brings. The melody is embedded deep inside me, yet I have never heard the words as she recites them. This music is profoundly resonant to me in this moment, including the guitar accompaniment that feels so fitting in its acoustic simplicity.
I am pleased to acknowledge this musician as this week's Spotlight Artist. As a token of appreciation, I'm happy to invite her to choose our community's Hive Open Mic theme for our upcoming week 54. @irissol, please choose a theme that will inspire and enliven us as we explore new territory as artists. Just name it in the comments below, and we're good to go!

The message is an excellent fit for this week's "Unity" theme, and for our community as a whole. It closely aligns with our Global Harmony vision.
I Am One (Original) by
@cabelindsay
My entry is a song about oneness. To me, it is easy to understand the notion of oneness if we visualize the water as a metaphor. A singular raindrop falling in the sky may appear to be all alone, until it plunges into the ocean of oceans, joining the total oneness of all the waters of the world. Similarly, my individuality ends in the oneness that is Love Eternal.
Acknowledgements
Hive Open Mic showcases live music on Hive. I honor these gifted and talented musicians for expressing themselves in a way that creates connection. To me, we all benefit through the camaraderie between musicians and music fans, sharing a musical community. Please join me in extending our gratitude through claps, finger snaps, comments, upvotes, and tips to the individual artists.
Inspiration
Bob Marley's song, "One Love" showed up in several Hive Open Mic entries this week. This is one of the many Marley joints that speak of unity. This man understood the harmonizing power of music. These artists do a good job of carrying "Three Little Birds" and "One Love," and in fact I've seen The Wailers in concert and absolutely loved the show. No one can replace the legend, though.
In this video, I'd like to draw attention to the crowd. This is what harmonious music does to us. It helps us to stand side by side, smiling, swaying to the rhythm, even in a crowd of thousands. Music helps us to feel grateful and joyful and peaceful. It helps us to hold the keys of harmony, truth, justice, and love.
Appreciation
I am grateful for the various ways this event stretches me as a music maker, generous listener, and patron of the arts. I enjoy the surprises, discovering songs that inspire me. I get the impression we're all making progress, sharing our art with the world, making steady steps toward global harmony. And our unique way of honoring artists is centered around live music. What a blast!
