Mizuho and I took a daytrip to Kamakura and Enoshima to escape Tokyo's claustrophobia-inducing craziness. We didn't really have any specific plans in mind. We just wanted to get some nice photos for Instagram. We made sure to leave early because the train ride to Kamakura is 1.5 hours long. To get to Kamakura, just take the JR Yokosuka Line from Tokyo Station to Kamakura Station.
Tsurugaoka Hachimang奴 was our first stop. This is Kamakura's most important shrine, and it sits in the center of the city. It was founded in 1063, and is dedicated to Hachiman, the patron god of the Minamoto family.
A traditional Shinto shrine maiden dance - very cool!
Next, we took the train to Enoshima.
I get SERIOUSLY nostalgic about Japan whenever I see this photo. You know...you're in a foreign country taking the train with a friend, while the beautiful ocean view just whizzes by. Go see the world and live your life!
Here's a photo of some Japanese birds. I think they're slimmer than American birds.
A few candid photos from Enoshima...
We visited Enoshima Shrine, a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Buddhist goddess Benten.
Overlooking Enoshima after a lot of walking!
Sunset means it's time to head back to Tokyo.
If you ever find yourself in Japan, please visit Kamakura and Enoshima. Both of these places are super beautiful, and I promise you won't regret it.
