Yes, I have and it's not a very good memory. I had just finished secondary school then. I had taken up a job as a teacher in one primary school. I was just few days into the job.
I got to know that one of my classmates from secondary school was staying in the area close to the school. I was delighted as I hadn't seen him for close to a year since he didn't join us in writing exams.
On one fateful day, I was sent to get brooms by the headmistress. The place where they were sold was near my friends house. I decided to go there.
He had, on my last encounter with him, told me that he stays upstairs and had pointed the place to me. So, I decided to go see him for few minutes before returning to the school.
I got to the compound and looked up. I didn't know which of the houses was his as the storey was double. I didn't know if his was left or right. I had no phone then and so couldn't call him. I decided to just check out, maybe knock on both doors to see if someone would answer. I knew his brother, sister and mother , so I would recognise them if they came to answer the door.
The first door I checked was opened. The way the house was built was that there was a door to the balcony. It's after you have entered the balcony that you get to the main door. Since the door to the balcony was opened, I got in and had in my mind too go knock the other door inside, it was opened as well. I didn't go inside but asked aloud 'is anyone in?'
When no one answered, I took my leave. I didn't know the house wasn't my friend's and that the owner, a woman was seeing me from downstairs. She had gone to pick her daughter frond school and was just returning.
I knocked on the other side of the storey bit the door was shut. So, I decided they were weren't around and climbed down the stairs. I was met by the woman who held me by the collar android started calling me a thief. I was very bitter and despite the fact that I tried explaining to her that I was looking for Phillip, my friend from-en secondary school, she didn't believe me.
A crowd gathered and my saving grace that day was a lady who attends myself church and stays in the area. She identified me that she knew me and there's no way I could be a thief. She even identified that Philip was the new tenant that was staying upstairs. It was then the woman let me go.
That incidence stuck to my head like a broken record. It's one I will not forget in a hurry.
