I Lived in a rowdy area in Lagos. It is a crazy town called Alagbado!
This place is not a ghetto but the town boys have almost made it one, most streets have their own gangs and there are some areas that an ajebo guy should not pass because they will harass and snatch your belongings from you.
Many times, one street gang would clash with another and start hurting themselves and most time, it is irrelevant things that cause the fight.
There is a particular street close to where my sister lives, the street is called Ogundipe and the Ogundipe boys are well known for their notorious deeds and hooligan way of life... When you pass the street, you will see the boys smoking and drinking in certain areas, they formed different groups in the same street since they are many. Once you pass one group, you will meet another one at the front and if you are not a street boy, they will harass you, in fact, girls are always scared to pass that street, especially at night.
I got to the city in the year 2011 and the house I arrived at was one with many touts and smokers and bus conductors, just name it, and being a house full of boys like that, I have had my crazy moments too, in fact from 2011 to 2015, I was very hot-tempered too and little things get me annoyed, so I have also engaged in a lot of fights until lord take over my life.
Things got worse in 2018 upward. the small boys have started growing wings too, and they have started smoking and doing drugs and causing a commotion in the street, I knew most of them while growing up, so the respect is also there and yea I got a free pass cos of that and I also maintain my lane, and one thing about tout is that they don't stay in their street alone, you will also see them in other streets and they don't harass people who know them or they know.
To cut a long story short, my sister lived in a street very close to Ogundipe, I used to visit her and sometimes I even spent up to a week in her place If I felt like changing areas for a while.
There is this guy who is her neighbor we became friends and we talk whenever I am around.
He got into a fight with one of the Ogundipe boys by slapping him, he was older than the boy but when this boy had smoked, they didn't care, after slapping him, he went to call his elder brother, there were 5 of them, they came to the house to beat my friend.
Normally, if it was a one-on-one fight, None of them can beat him but their plan is to gang beat him, I do not really like interfering in a fight like that, I like minding myself but it would be bad of me to ignore since I was around and it was not a fair fight. 5 against 1.
I tried to come in to settle the fight rather than supporting my friend when one of them said he was going to break a stick on my head, omo that statement got my face all red, and rather than trying to settle the fight, I only made it worse because the guy that made that statement had it from me., my friend was at an advantage too since he was no longer facing them alone, other neighbour came out to settle it
More guys arrived and some of them seemed to know me, they were like this egbon no dey fight o, they told the other 5 guys that came earlier to calm down and that was how it was settled.
I later met the other guy who said he was going to break my head the other days later and he greeted me, Well guys fight doesn't last long, I gave him a handshake, he is like a younger brother to me if not for the smoke and drugs they take that make them misbehave.
My friend thanked me and we became closer after that day, I could have my business and not bother to come out like some others but things ain't done that way.
I do not like trouble, I don't find trouble either but when trouble comes at me, I am not scared to trouble the trouble.
