One of the children I taught extra lessons in the past visited me today.
It was fun having him around. We discussed a lot of things, including crypto. But while I was escorting him out, he made a funny statement. He said, “ Uncle Bj, You have become shorter.”
It was funny to me, but I understood where he was coming from.
Ten years ago, I taught him when he was in Primary 5, and at the time, I was much taller than him. The funny thing is that by 2016, I had already reached my final height, while he still had plenty of growing to do.
Now, ten years later, he is standing taller than me.
Such is life.
Where the adult stops, the child continues. Eventually, the children we once carried along will grow and come and meet us where we stopped.
He is slowly becoming an adult, and judging by his height, I still expect him to grow even taller than he is today.
But his visit reminded me of something else, my own life ten years ago.
Back then, I was a teacher, and I genuinely loved my profession. I worked almost every day teaching students. Even weekends were not spared.

At first, it wasn’t easy to make ends meet, but I didn’t give up. It didn’t take too long before I started making enough to at least feed myself and buy clothes.
But that money could never fulfill my dreams, it was just to pay bills...
Looking back today, I can only thank God for growth.
It can only be Him.
The way life has unfolded, seeing a teacher who was once collecting peanuts for his work gradually become who he is today, it is a great feat.
And I don’t take it for granted.
Hopefully, ten years from now, I will look back at where I am today and say the same thing again:
“It can only be Him.”
I hope I will be able to look at the new position I have attained, the growth I have experienced, and everything that has changed, and thank God once again.
Because nothing is impossible with Him.
He did it once.
He can do it again.
