When it comes to training children, there is no particular formula that gives a 100 percent success rate. The method Mr. A used that worked on his children might not work for Mr. B’s children because children also have different characters, regardless of their upbringing.
I am not saying upbringing is not important. I am just saying that even good parenting cannot guarantee that a child will make good choices throughout life.
When it comes to homeschooling and traditional schools, I believe both are important in a child’s life. In traditional schools, children learn how to socialize and also develop competitive skills because they have to compete with other students in their class academically. Healthy competition, though. No matter how we try to paint it as if there is no competition in school, there is. All children cannot be the same. There will be brilliant and intelligent children, as well as others with their own special skills, and school is there to help them discover and nurture those skills.
Which reminds me of a secondary schoolmate. The boy was always taking first position in class, and he was just too brilliant that there was no one who could compete with him.
It was later on that I discovered that his father was a strict man, and after school, he would still go ahead to attend extra lessons, unlike most of us. After school, all we did was play, and it was during the late hours that we would finally finish our assignments because of the punishment that came from not doing them.
Regarding homeschooling, the parent can take charge of it or employ a tutor to help homeschool their children. This is also good, but it can be limiting because the children may not fully understand how competitive it is out there, and they may have fewer opportunities to develop their social skills if they only interact with their parents and private tutor.
Our children deserve to go out there and learn because they will need those experiences when they grow up. Education is not the only thing being learned in school. They also learn how to make friends, interact with others, communicate, work with different personalities, and handle healthy competition.
Learning never stops. No one knows everything, and a seeker of knowledge will only keep knowing more. So, any opportunity that guarantees learning should not be missed.
In my opinion, I think both traditional schools and homeschooling are necessary in a child’s life. Whatever they learn in school, they can learn more about at home through homeschooling. They get taught in school and then get the opportunity to understand those things better than their peers through additional learning at home, which can further give them an advantage in school.
