Remote work is the hot cake in society now. The youth prefer working remotely rather than going out to battle with traffic and other factors.
Who does not like waking up at their convenient time, walking around their house in their boxers, clicking on their laptops without a boss monitoring them? They can choose to sleep and press, stand and press, or sit and press with no one disturbing them. Who does not like such a lifestyle? Lol.
But the fact is, not everyone is designed for remote jobs. Some people prefer the daily bustle and hustle outside their homes. We have drivers who love what they do and cannot quit their jobs for one that keeps them indoors.
We have artisans who love their work and love the feeling of getting one done. Their brains and bodies are not designed to remain indoors, clicking their lives away on a laptop.
This is to say, even though many people want a remote job, we still have people who do not cherish it and prefer the outdoor jobs they are doing.
It is the Gen Zs and younger millennials who seem to prefer remote work, and one thing I have come to realize is how comfort kills.
We love the lifestyle: sleeping late, waking late, doing our work at our convenient time, eating as we like, and probably not seeing the sun for days unless it is necessary to go out and get foodstuffs or other things. Yea, that lifestyle looks like a dream, but humans are not designed for such a sedentary lifestyle. It can affect us faster than we can imagine, and I am a living testimony to that.
I spent the last 9 years living such a lifestyle, and the result was a terrible sickness that I just recovered from a few months ago. I am glad I am back to my old self, and even though I still love remote work, I now schedule time to go out and exercise my body to avoid falling sick again or making my body and immunity weak.
There is nothing to worry about remote work being everyone's dream job because it can never be everyone's dream job. We have farmers who love to till the soil, eat the fruit of their labour, and sell the remaining proceeds. We have artisans who have fallen in love with their handwork. It is not just about making money for them; it is a passion that makes them fulfilled.
So there will always be a balance between remote workers and offline workers.
Another fact is that there can never be enough jobs for everyone who desires a remote job. In the end, the unlucky ones will have to get an offline job.
We have the business-oriented ones too, who prefer having their own business rather than working for others.
At the end of the day, what one person considers a dream job might be exactly what another person does not want. We are all different, and the kind of work that gives one person satisfaction might not give another person the same feeling. What matters is finding what works for you and gives you a sense of fulfillment.
