I think we need to take it and make it our own. Hear me out. If you've ever gone to Costco, you'll likely know what I mean. You sample a food there and love it, so you buy it. The display is nearly empty and you practically have to threaten to give a nearby old lady a beatdown if she doesn't unhand the last box of deliciousness that you saw first. She relents and you take your prize to the checkout stand.
You get home and eat it up far faster than you originally planned. Now it's gone. So what do you do? Go back for more!
You arrive at Costco not more than a week after your last visit. Surely that's enough time for them to have restocked. You head over to where the food was the last time you bought it. Gone! It's likely been replaced by a display of some stupid overpriced dog collar that looks like MacGyver's braindead second cousin cobbled together from rummaging through the trash bins outside of Hobby Lobby.
You see an employee nearby and ask them where they moved the food. "Oh, we stopped carrying those." The whole pallet sold out, yet they're not going to carry them anymore. They could order five pallets and sell through them in less than a week, but they're not going to order any more.
If I had $1 every time some place did this, and not just Costco mind you, I could probably buy Costco outright with cash. KFC does it all the time with their popcorn chicken. I swung by there today for lunch, thinking I'd get a Famous Bowl. Nope. Guess what's back?!
They brought their popcorn chicken back! So yeah, of course I got some. It's not just KFC, though. McDonald's did it with their "All Day Breakfast." Now it's just "All Day Day-old Pastries." Lucky Fin, a seafood restaurant near us, did it with their Mojo Roll.
I have no clue why, but these places take one of their most popular products and discontinue them. It's like they have to make a profit to stay in business, but they secretly hate money and don't want to make "too much money." It absolutely baffles me, but I swear it's a real phenomenon.
So, there you go. Spread the word. Use it regularly when you name and shame places. Let's make it not about local wages increasing but about the ridiculous trend of companies discontinuing immensely popular products for seemingly no good reason.
