The perfect recipe for a nice, toned coin or round is a paper envelope, time and forgetfulness. I was cleaning the area underneath my end table out. Quite a bit of envelopes, supplies and miscellaneous garbage had slowly piled up so I decided to purge.
I picked up an envelope and went to throw it out, but I noticed it felt heavy. I felt around inside. Out popped this Libertad I forgot I had left in there to tone.
From the front it didn't look like much had happened to it. The coin has likely been sitting in there at least a year. Then I flipped it over.
Now THAT is some toning! I was pleasantly surprised it had even developed a hint of purple along the edge on one side. It reminds me a lot of the 1 gram Geiger square I lost in a box for a year. When I found it, it had an amazing rainbow of colors.
This was a fun find. I'm tempted to repeat this to see what other coins and rounds I can randomly tone!
