For some reason my daughter woke up one day and decided she wanted to collect glass. Broken glass like the kind you find in the street. She was determined so knowing the dangers of this excercise I came up with a compromise.
I told her we would rather go collect glass found in the sea sand at the beach. A much safer option as the rolling and tumbling of the ocean wears down the sharp edges. I had not looked for sea glass in years so I had forgotten how hard it actually was to find it. So after three trips to the beach with a total two pieces found she was feeling a little heartbroken.
Yesterday, without intending to look for sea glass we made a trip to the beach. We were watching the surfers from the top of a hill and looking down we noticed a rocky area with multiple rock pools visible from where we stood. Curious, we decided to explore.
As we reached our destination we noticed the an abundance of shells an between the shells, sea glass. More than I had ever seen in one location before. Unfortunately I assume that it's a common practice to throw glass bottles from the top down onto the rocks. Not so great for the surfers and sea life who share this area but great for a little girl obsessed with collecting glass.
