Yes, we may, peacefully move onto an unoccupied piece of land, set up a free energy device, and gun pylons all around, set up repulsion fields, and claim it as our property.

This kinda makes the force used defensive, instead of offensive… which may make all the difference.

If we go out to the asteroid field, and do what we did in days of yore, claiming this (entire huge area) as our (for the crown) and not leaving more for the next people to come, even the children who aren't born, then we arrive at where we are now, again.

Or maybe, we find that the asteroid field is so vast and plentiful, that people only claim the small piece they are working on now, and that comes and goes like lights flickering on and off.
