I hate the "Trolley Problem"! It is just designed to break people's minds.
Solutions to these can only be found in higher thinking.
If i was at the switch, i would put the trolley on the ground. You can do this but setting it in the middle. (sometimes this does not work) Or, switch just after the front wheels pass the toe of the switch. (but, how many people are on the trolley? A lot will get hurt.
Most trolleys are electric, and if you can cause a short, it stops the system.
But, the people who run these want you to really think about killing one or killing five people. So, for a while, in your brain, you are a killer. And one should really not do that. It breaks your mind, often permanently.
Stealing bread only works in one, tiny situation. Unfortunately, capitalism/free market is well known for creating this situation.
There is a bread baker/seller, because there are enough people that want bread and will pay for someone else to bake it.
And there are only a few (single digit percentage) that need to steal to feed themselves.
Any other situation, and the bread seller just doesn't exist.
In Soviet Russia, you wait for bread
In Capitalist America, bread waits for you
When making bread for sales, there is always a lot of waste. And that bread can be used to feed hungry people. But, those paying, do not want to compete for bread with those not paying.
Anyway, one of the better solutions is that each person should have the ability to get land/water to grow their own food.
One that is often used right now is that day old bread goes to the food bank. But, this is inconsistent, and can be troublesome to those who cannot pay.
