Well, i do not have many friends, because you are the sum of the five people you hang out with most.
So, have good friends. Friends that are aware of things happening, and the results of their actions.

Thus, if my friend jumped off a bridge, i would be inclined to follow.
You would look really stupid standing on the bridge as it blew up, or the snipers opened fire.
