I really do not know what HIVE is going to do.
I will ride this STEEM train till the wheels fall off... which has already happened once.
I think the future is... lets take email as an example, in the future, everyone has their own email server. You buy it from newegg for a hundred bucks and plug it in. Your mail is not read by any group out there. Your email is probably autoencrypted where your email-server and your friend's email-server swap keys automatically.
And the links are not IP addresses or icann URLs but something like, you meet with your friend and 'give' them your address. Like giving someone your street address. Except you live their permanently. It is not really a public address. And is not really found by browsing. I am not sure how it will work, but it probably has keys wrapped in keys with timecodes... but your app will tell your friend's app, how to reach you.
Now, extend this idea to f-c-book, and you have a 'wall-server', and so, now you are in charge of who sees your posts and pictures.
So, HIVE is a good step forward, but i do not think it is where it ends.
