The problem is multilayered. You have to go down the rabbit hole a few times.
Students are wrongfully told that going to college means you will get a better, higher paying job.
(the type of people that would go to college would make more regardless)
The idea of taking out loans to go to college has been normalized.
So, you go to college and incur college debt.
And then they made this debt non-dismissable.
Who, at a young age learns that the common knowledge is wrong? When all your teachers say the same thing. Go to college, Get a degree, Get a job.
Further down the rabbit hole you find that in a fractional reserve lending system you can NEVER pay back all the loans.
Then, what are you supposed to do with this information?
Cars, Houses, Appliances are all inflated in price because of financing.
So, it is only the rare hustler that can actually get around using loans.
FDIC doesn't even insure account balances that are anywhere near what you need to buy a house.
