I have put a lot of thought into shared fridges.
Is it really advantageous to, basically, make a stack of mini fridges that run on the same compressor?

Seems like it will be important in the near future, as more people get crammed into sharing a building.

When you divide up space, you do not get the best use of space. Short term overflow is easy in a big, shared fridge, but impossible when you divide the space.

Well, at least you can separate out the ice maker...
