Kit cars are a weird niche.
What most people can do is bolt together things.
So, if your kit/mod requires cutting, grinding, welding... than most people aren't going to do that.
(and those that can, why do they need a kit, just gets some sheet metal)
And parts for a car cost so much more.
Extremely high mark up.
However, custom parts are even more expensive.
Soooo, we are left with people with good know how, and a good budget, and a good desire to have something unique (or uniquer).
I used to be into car design.
But today, i don't see any market, any desire.
It would be create a super-car business, or don't bother.
However, my latest ideas are something far different.
Now that we have a lot of electric cars, and electric car parts.
Why are we stuck on V8s or V10s?
How about we go back to working with turbines? (running a genset)
In fact, a Tesla Turbine would be an excellent home project to power your AWD super electric car.
