Unfortunately for the powers-that-shouldn't-be there is a large scale awakening.

When a person truly finds spirituality and spiritual growth, drugs become... shtupid.
So, so much less than what you can get on your own.
And this person becomes more and more immune to the control.

Further, the psychopaths that want the control do not see the full experience of humans.
They cannot understand those people who avoid casual sex, or won't take millions of dollars to become corporate drones.

They can't understand higher goals

And what will really hit them is that people will start demanding transparency.

Its kinda like the powers-that-shouldn't-be have practiced for 2D battles, and the world has developed advanced flight. T.H.E.Y. are not prepared for 3D battle.

But! There will be a lot of sheep that will go nicely into their pens.
