i haven't worked with any debate system... except back in high school, where i chose the 10 side (in a 90/10 opinion) so that i would have to work hard to get a point across. (i ended up debating me vs most of the class sometimes.)

If a system can be used to silence decent (or just bury it), then the system is broken.
Especially for debates.

Facts are very difficult.

Imagine that all the world is color blind (they are) and you are trying to describe a rainbow.
It becomes an almost impossible task. And, to many, red, orange, yellow... is just an opinion.

Imagine being told what you see is an opinion.

And this is actually reality. There are people being born now that have 4 cone types, and so, in between a double rainbow is not lacking in color, it is actually filled with more colors.
Most describe them in hues of neon colors.

So, are these colors in between a double rainbow fact or opinion?

And further, people take what they have been taught in science class as fact.
Like, the earth is a giant ball of molten earth. Although this is just an opinion, as no one has ever seen or explored the center of the ball earth... nor do we know that it is even a ball. (unless we take a bunch of photoshopped images as fact)

And then the granddaddy of them all.
Does God exist?

God can never be proven.
Because we have free choice.
But, with free choice, we can pull back the veil and see / meet / greet and get to know God.

So, you end up in a situation where you know God.
But to most people you are just an insane nut.
They demand proof.
You tell them the path for them to discover God themselves.
And without trying (or trying much) the conclude that you are a nut.
