In what kind of an "operating system" do you need to
Make a setting in windows.
Reboot the computer.
Make the same setting in windows.

in order for it to accept the setting? (this was back in Win 95)

Microsloth had API calls explicitly for pre-NSA to use on your computer.
You know, API's like draw a window... but undocumented and specifically named for the Federal Endtable of Intimidation.

Their business practice has been to either buy out competing firms
or write them out of existence.
That is not just a little evil. And it has happened again and again and again.

WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) runs most winders programs on linux better than winders does.

Further, there are many Linux programs that are FAR superior to their microsloth counterparts.
AND! you can mod them to your hearts content if they are not.

So, if you haven't used Linux in a while, i suggest to you start looking into it again.
I made the switch (and i was a winders programmer - so it was painful move) and never looked back / never been happier.

And that business about Minecraft. ... or is it MeinKraft now?
