When you have a handful of people running things, they can all get together and decide to do something. Its one of the benefits of DPOS and its biggest downfall.

Twenty people can decide to get together and screw over an account.
Twenty people can decide to get together to make HIVE a better place.

They can do both, have done both.
And those twenty can change in an instant.

The biggest problem is you can't hit the eject button in an instant.
But the rules of the DPOS can change in an instant.
So, you really have to have blind faith.
