The modern schooling system (to make all the fish swim in the same direction) is designed to make you self identify with the "knowledge". You are right and GOOD, if you answer the questions as the teacher states.
You are bad and stupid (EVIL) if you answer the questions in a non-consistent manner.

So, when confronting any fact, you are going up against someone's belief that they are a good person.

Here is a good example. 9-11

I have a friend who has heard much of the information that is basically the smoking gun of 9-11
However they cannot believe a group of people would plan and initiate a work to kill thousands of people.

And that is a hard thing to overcome. How do you deal with psychopaths? Are they real, or are they just stories your mom tells you to keep you in line? Two very different world views.

Now, about the flat earth.

I have too much evidence that NASA has lied and lied repeatedly. So, we can use nothing they espouse as evidence.

Next, light houses (and pictures, and more recently infrared pictures) can be seen over the edge of the horizon.
So, given that the earth is a certain size (curvature) and light travels in a straight line, these lighthouses should not be seen and pictures should not be taken.
But the are.

So, either the curve is wrong, or light doesn't travel in straight lines. Both break everything we think we know.

It is also very hard to accept that NASA has knowingly lied, that our science books have knowingly lied.
