Updating the Precious Profile

Precious the Silver Mermaid has been the embodiment of the SGS Community Curation Project @ssg-community for well over 5 years now. Everyone who is part of SGS knows who Precious is and what she represents. Initially she started out as a persona on the STEEM blockchain and we ran a competition back in those days to develop a logo that we could use for her profile. There was some controversy at the time because the winner attempted to extract some royalties but after we sorted that out we ended up with the below image.

I was never really a big fan of the design, but its what the community decided at the time so we went with it. Someone once said that it looks like a Fish & Chips shop paper that you’d wrap your greasy takeaway in and that comment stuck with me because I completely agree. I was thinking it might be time to revamp it the other day and realized that right smack bang in the middle of it is still the old STEEM logo. I had become so used to the image I had forgotten that it was there, but we’ve been on HIVE now for well over 3 years! Why are we promoting the STEEM blockchain on HIVE?

So I changed it. I’ve been doing a fair bit of playing with AI in recent times and so I pulled out one of my favorite images of Precious that I’ve used as the icon for her on Discord. It doesn’t have the text or any blockchain logo – it’s just our beautiful Precious in all her natural glory.

Precious has also had a Cover Image which for 5+ years now has just been some sparkling clear water. While I was changing the profile I thought we could do a lot better than that old cover image too. So I generated a nice beach landscape with a bountiful treasure chest full of shiny gold coins and a pirate ship in the distance. Check it out.

In hindsight I am a bit surprised that nobody picked up on these very dated profile images sooner - especially the STEEM logo. Maybe none of our older members care too much, and that’s fine. It’s the new people who we are slowly starting to attract to the SGS Precious Metals Community who might be more likely impressed with some snazzier imagery. What do you think?
