Recently we’ve seen a few snippets come out of the Red States of America about formal steps toward recognizing and adopting Gold and Silver as Legal Tender. A return to Sound Money is something many of us at SGS have been expecting to happen sooner or later and today I see another step in that direction from the State of Texas...one of the most populous and economically powerful states of the USA.
It comes in the documented 2024 Republican Primary Ballot Propositions which is published on the formal Texas GOP website. Specifically I am referring to Proposition 7, which states :-
"The Texas Legislature should establish authority within the Texas State Comptroller’s office to administer access to gold and silver through the Texas Bullion Depository for use as legal tender."
Sure it might sound like a small step, but it’s the direction that’s important and even as a foreigner I can see that there is clearly a concerted push in Texas to promote the use of Gold and Silver as Legal Tender. Often Texas is a front-runner to other states in the USA to follow suit so while they may seem like an outlier, in all likeliness they are blazing a trail and showing others how a return to Sound Money can (and will) be done.
I also had a read through the other Propositions in that document and while I have mixed feelings on many of them there are a couple of other standouts that I do strongly agree with.
Proposition 6 :-
"The Texas Legislature should prohibit the deployment of the Texas National Guard to a foreign conflict unless Congress first formally declares war."
Sounds pretty fundamental to me. I am generally anti-war but I am not naive. Call me old school but if you’re going to go to war there should at least be a formal declaration of it before troops are deployed...
Proposition 8 :-
"The State of Texas should ensure that Texans are free to give or to withhold consent for any vaccine without coercion."
To me this is a fundamental defense of the individuals civil right to Bodily Autonomy. As someone who was locked down for 5 months in 2021 for not taking the Covid Jab and facing not just extreme coercion but discrimination and demonization by my fellow citizens at the behest of our so called “Leaders” this is another no-brainer for me.
