I love my kids. I really do. Even though the way I talk it’s common for people to take away the opinion that I hate my kids, it’s not true. We have School Holidays again in NSW Australia and it’s a difficult time for me because I work from home doing my own thing and my wife can’t usually get time off from her work. To be more specific – when I don’t work, I don’t earn. So during School Holidays I typically don’t earn...
Of course it’s great to spend some time with the kids even though I will insist that I’m not the playmate they really should want or need. I’m a bit of an old school dad. Protect and Provide. Yeh, the first part is easy most of the time but the 2nd part gets really hard when you can’t put in the work and are constantly distracted by the endless requests to “Do something fun” with the kids...that costs money...that you don’t have...and can’t earn because you’re doing something fun. It’s a vicious circle.
I know writing a shitpost like this just sounds like whining and it pretty much is. I am grateful that for the most part they are happy and healthy kids. I know that my Work Life Balance is currently way out of whack and that’s a result of other real-world financial pressures. There isn’t much I can do about that either, but what happens during School Holidays is that I start Dropping the Ball. There isn’t enough time in the day to stay on top of my normal workload so I have to cut corners and push things off. I hate doing it, but I have no choice.
So if you’re waiting for me to respond to something like I normally would, you’re just going to have to wait. I’ll get to it when I can. It’s not you, it’s me.
