After advising last week the Next Monster Raffle Delayed the obvious question I needed to answer was : "How long can we sustain our current leases before the funds raised last year run out?" To answer this question I have to do a bit of maths, so if you hate maths then stop reading now. However if you are interested in how the project runs and finances itself then hopefully this post will preemptively answer your questions!
Of course this isn’t an exact science because we never really know how much Curation Reward the community account will earn, whether our Lessors or even our Member Sponsors will stick around in the medium term, so this requires a bit of a Guesstimate. However I’ve been doing this a few years now so my guess is going to be as good as anyone elses.
Let’s start with the known facts. Our current leases cost us 609.41 HIVE per week. Lets assume our goal is to keep all of those leases as long as possible and therefore maintain our Hive Power at it’s current level. Our current Power Down frees up 566.2 Liquid HIVE per week, however that Power Down was due to expire in about 5 weeks so we’d need to initiate a new Power Down after that. As of this moment I’ve just made our Weekly Delegation Payments and our Staked Hive Power is at a healthy 7735.15. Last week our Curation Rewards were about 550 HIVE thanks to the great work of our awesome Community Authors, so our Power Down and Curation Rewards have already come very close to equilibrium. This is good for our sustainability…
However, rather than wait for our current Power Down to expire I’ve just cancelled it and initiated a new one. With 7735 Hive Power staked this new Power Down will now free up 595 Liquid HIVE per week (up from 566.2). Now our Power Down is almost in equilibrium with our Weekly Delegation Payments. This is even better…
Since our weekly Curation Rewards have almost caught up with our Power Down, which has in turn almost caught up to our Weekly Lease Expenses (that have dropped lately) it is probably no longer necessary to keep the Extra HBD in Savings to cover an expected Budget Deficit from Week to Week going forward. So what I can do now is pull the remaining HBD out of Savings, power it up so we get a slight bump in Voting Power and then initiate a new Power Down next week so that our Power Down can then be comfortably greater than our Weekly Delegation Payments. This means that the Budget Deficit will be gone – at least for the next 3 months. This should easily get us into June where we can have another look at things and maybe get our Monster Raffle Fundraiser going again.
