Lamenting the Ones that Got Away

People have always come and gone as they please from the Silver Gold Stackers Community and that’s OK. Some get busy in real life, some become bored with it all and others have been driven away by HIVE whales they’ve run afoul of. It’s not realistic to think that everyone who comes here will stay, but most good organizations have a strategy of Recruitment and Retention to try and sustain themselves. It’s smart for organizations to make the best of the people they have and make sure that people who come along can find their place to be a part of something bigger….

I’ve been having a good chat with Old Mate @welshstacker these last few days about some of the glory days and what we got up to all those years ago. We’ve been having a look at the old Monster Raffles to see if we can find things we did well...or poorly, so that we can be ready to try it all again in a few months time. I came across something which was both awesome and yet at the same time tragic. It’s got me wondering if we should really be doing more on the Recruitment and Retention front and if we do go ahead with a new Monster Raffle then this story is an example of a situation where I think we could do a LOT better.

It was Monster Raffle 4 in June 2019 and the call had gone out for people to donate prizes to be raffled off and this guy (who I have never heard of before...or since) seemingly came out of nowhere to make his 2nd donation. A 10 ounce Silver Britannia. Check out his donation post HERE if you don’t believe me because, YES – It’s hard to believe. I don’t think he was even a member at the time, he just came out of the blue and threw 11 ounces of silver on the table and no matter what language you speak you’d have to appreciate that it was a VERY generous donation at the time that benefited our community.

Then the eventual winner of that prize was another guy who I never heard of. You can check out his unboxing post HERE when he received this awesome shiny silver.

Now admittedly I wasn’t really around much during June 2019 because I had just relocated my family and was trying to get established – but it looks to me like these two guys @naltedtirt and @raddog came out of practically nowhere to support our community via the Monster Raffle and then for all intents and purposes they disappeared again not long after. This is why I say it was both awesome and tragic.

Could we have done more to bring these guys into the SGS fold? Should we have? I’m not trying to shame anyone here because it really was a crazy time and we were going through a lot back then on STEEM. I’m just looking to make a point that we should try to do better next time something like this happens. Both @welshstacker and I lamented that we should have done more and these guys were ones who got away.

The Monster Raffle was primarily about Fundraising – YES, but it was more than that too. It’s a big community event designed to bring everyone together. It’s a chance for us to reach outside our community to promote precious metals and bring more brothers and sisters into the fold. I hope we won’t miss the opportunity to do exactly that if we get another chance.
