1UP diving into our ocean!
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
Well, I'm hoping that this news will get more of you interested in sharing and reading posts in the Post Pool channels.
A few days ago, I stumbled onto a post in my feed that went by the name of What Is 1UP - And How Can It Improve The Voting System?. As you can probably tell, it didn't take me long to check out this one. 1UP and BuddyUP? They just sound like they're made for each other!
The project itself is fantastic! I'll describe a few points that I have gathered from @flauwy himself and from reading the post. I'll quote some of the text below so that you don't have to jump between posts.
You may be wondering, how does the 1UP voting system differ from our existing system?
With 1UP, all Steemians with a reputation of 45 or higher will get a brand new upvote button to give daily up to ten 1UP's to the best posts they find. These 1UP's are free and avoid the usual Proof of Stake system because no matter whether a whale or a minnow gives the 1UP - it always counts the same! The posts land on the special 1UP Ranking Page where ten times a day the post with the most 1UP's will be upvoted by the 1UP trail account and trigger all the 1UP trailers to also upvote the post. The trailers are additionally incentivized to participate through the following whale upvote which increases the expected curation rewards drastically.
Hold up... yeah, you heard that right. A totally separate voting system which is selected and rewarded by the people. Giving everyone the input to reward quality content, based on the numbers of votes givenby everyone.
For those of you that struggled to follow the above quote, possibly because you are newer to the platform and don't understand some of the jargon, I'll briefly describe the process below.
Every day (if you have 45 rep+) you will receive 10, 1UP votes
You can use these votes without affecting your bandwidth or voting weight
10 times a day, the 1UP account will vote the post who is currently highest on the ranking page (The voting weight for the 1UP account is determined by the trail of users who vote after the 1UP account has voted)
The 1UP account has a whale vote on the trail, so all voters on the trail will receive a much larger curation reward
Sounds pretty cool? I think it's a much-needed adaptation to our voting system.
Currently, the 1UP account has a trail of followers who are supporting work on Utopian.io (a platform on Steemit that is centered around developing/coding), this means that the 1UP account is not going to be able to integrate with our BuddyUP content right now without having to open the doors to all content. This is totally understandable and makes sense. The audience for 1UP supports the work on Utopian.io and it's what they have joined the trail for.
We do have good news though. Myself and @flauwy were speaking yesterday and he told me that the 1UP system is open source. This means that we can incorporate the same system into the BuddyUP account and start a trail on there.
Before we go any further, I want you to imagine the voting system and how it would work within BuddyUP. We are already sharing fantastic posts of others and the channels are starting to fill up with some very diverse and interesting content. I would like for you to visit the 1UP ranking page and see what it looks like. Imagine it was designed for BuddyUP.
Here is the 1UP Ranking page.
Can you see how the interaction and engagement we could gain from this system, could create a massive snowball effect for everyone within the group?
Being able to show your appreciation for the other members of the group, by 1UPing their posts, is exactly the kind of engagement we need for our post-spot, post-drop, and the-hook channels. It rewards those who want to put in the effort with their writing and it gives you the chance to highlight those around you who are doing a great job.
Right now, we don't need anything other than your feedback and your thoughts.
Those of you who are wanting to wait patiently for the system to be put in place and see how the idea develops, we shouldn't be too long. Check out the existing 1UP system and see how that works and decide if it's something that you support.
The BuddyUP account will be our trail account and right now it is sitting with 0 trail followers on it. For those of you that support the plan and want to get behind this idea, you can show that straight away (and get yourself a good spot on the trail) by joining the accounts trail and waiting patiently for the system to be incorporated.
To do this, you can through SteemAuto. When you have set up your account with Steemauto, you can navigate to 'Curation Trail' on the left-hand side of the screen and look for 'buddyup-trail' to follow. When you choose the percentage of your vote to share through 'settings', make sure you reduce it to 50% or lower and set it to vote between 20-30 minutes. A 50% vote will give you 5 votes a day to use as you please (that is if you are not using a voting slider to adjust your voting weight).
Any percentage is acceptable, you decide how much of your vote you are willing to use, and how many manual votes you want to keep.
Disclaimer: We will not be voting with @buddyup-trail until we announced that the system is in place.
For some, this is a lot to take in and it's a lot of words and terms that some of you may not be familiar with. If you have any questions at all, or you'd like to ask about the 1UP system, you can send me a message on Discord and I will discuss what I know with you.
Massive shout out to @flauwy for creating a system that puts the rewards into the hands of the little guys. Exceptional work and I can't wait to see the system being used right across the platform. It has huge potential and could help out a great number of communities.
Make sure you head over to his page to check out what he has been working on.
1UP is the first system that allows for a decentralized voting system for posts on the Steem blockchain and it also allows for higher exposure and payouts for quality content. It also automates the voting power on any platform using 1UP to efficiently delegate upvotes to the posts with the highest hivemind consensus, without ever going idle at 100% voting power again.
The server is starting to come alive and I am seeing some interesting posts being dropped into our channels. The current top curator has to be @qberry. Consistent posts of high quality and he doesn't show any sign of stopping soon.
Yesterday, we posted an article by @praada and he was snapped up with a Curie vote for some excellent writing about his mine system adventure. Does this mean we have a potential Curie curator in our community? Hmmm...
I'd just like to say thank you again for all the support and encouragement. I was saying to @tamala this morning that it's the little things that sometimes matter the most while you're here. The little comments that mean a lot.
Keep up the wonderful work and don't forget to share with us what you've been reading, everybody is a curator.
We all grow together
This has been @calumam, thank you for reading.
